Dear friends of our kindergarten,

Finally on July 21st we could open our "Senzo-Daycare Centre". With great amazement our children stepped into our bright and friendly rooms with an adventure playground outside.

Probably you have many questions concerning our new project:

Who is being cared for ?

Until the end of this year (2008) we are only allowed to take on 12 children. Next year we will additionally have 13 more children. All children have been confronted with traumatic situations and their relationship to themselves as well as to others is radically disturbed and disconnected.
Some are orphans, either HIV-positive or suffering of having to permanently face their HIV-infected parents.

What is important for us ?

Just like in a healthy family children should feel at home and safe. We want to produce a climate in which safety and warmth can be experienced. It is very important for us to re-establish a positive approach to life and zest for life for our children. To strengthen them and to protect them.

What does my sponsorship achieve ?

Your monthly donation (re daycarecentre) will support an appropriate treatment of children. This includes enough food and education and we will enable regular medical treatment.

Do I get to know how “my sponsored children” develop ?

In our circular letters you will regularly receive news about the children´s situation and also latest news concerning the daycare centre´s issues.

And this what has especially demanded our staff in the last weeks:

- Our children don´t react when they are spoken to – They just look away
  apathically
- They often wet or defecate themselves
- Our HIV-infected children suffer from side effects of their medicines: shivering
  fits, great need of sleep and stomach problems.
- Our children are completely unable to solve their conflicts in a verbal manner.

On August 7th we had our first board meeting. Members are staff and mothers. For the following weeks we are planning an “open day”.
